In its 25th year, CSES launched a platform for Young Scholars to engage in academic conversations about their work; the CSES Young Scholars’ Colloquy. The platform is intended for scholars, in the early stages of their research career viz. who are in the final stages of their doctoral research work, have already submitted their thesis or those who have been awarded PhD in the past five years, to present their work and engage in conversations with peers and other academicians working in related areas. Such a platform is expected to help young researchers in getting to know about research works being conducted in Kerala, discuss about their work and those of others in wider circles and to engage in further research and collaborative works. This initiative was born out of the recognition of the limited reach and awareness in the Kerala academic circle about research works being undertaken on various facets of Kerala’s social and developmental scenario, and the absence of such a space for regular interaction among young researchers. The colloquy is held once in a quarter and on a virtual platform.

The duration of the programme will be around 60 to 75 minutes and the format of the programme is as follows:

  • Introduction of the topic and speaker by the moderator
  • Presentation by the speaker (Around 30 minutes)
  • Discussion and interaction with the speaker (Around 30 minutes) – The discussion is intended to be an insightful one into the domain and the area of research, as presented by the speaker. It is expected that future areas for research, methodologies to be adopted, challenges in the particular domain, etc. will be brought forth which will be beneficial for all the participants. The discussion, which will be moderated, is expected to be constructive, even when critical.
  • Ending remarks by the moderator
