CSES Young Scholars’ Colloquy #3: A Conversation on Health and Development in Kerala: Regional Perspectives

The third in the CSES Young Scholars’ Colloquy series was held on 12th October 2022. Dr Abdul Basith who completed his PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, interacted based on his doctoral research on “Health and Development in Kerala: Regional Perspectives”.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr Abdul Basith is an Assistant Professor (contract) in the Master of Social Work program Department of Sociology, University of Kerala. He has completed a doctoral degree from the Centre for Social Medicine and Community Health, Jawaharlal Nehru University and a post-graduation in Social Work from the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit with a specialization in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. His doctoral work examines developmental disparity at the district level in Kerala with health access and utilization, focusing on the historical formation of the state and events that led to the creation of the ‘Model Development”. His research area includes public health, development, disparities in health care and access, focusing on marginalized sections of society.
