Rakkee Thimothy is a Fellow at CSES and joined the Centre in 2018. Before joining CSES, she was an Associate Fellow at V V Giri National Labour Institute (under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, NOIDA). Her research expertise is in the areas of labour market dynamics, labour migration, and informal labour, with a special focus on gender. She is keenly interested in carrying out interdisciplinary research and uses mixed research methods to engage with and inform larger development issues.

She has worked extensively on labour migration in different corridors, administrative structures and regulatory frameworks that modulate labour flows. She has several publications to her credit and has also worked as a consultant to international organisations.

She holds a PhD in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and has completed post-doctoral research at Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore.

At CSES, her major research works include Work Life and Challenges of Platform Workers in Kerala: Case of App-based Food Delivery & Transport Workers for the Kerala Institute of Labour and Employment (KILE); Study on the MGNREGS Implementation in Kerala for the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA State Mission; Migration of Women Domestic Workers from Kerala to the Gulf for the Government of Kerala; Career Development of Indian Nurses Returned from the Gulf Countries in collaboration with the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE-JETRO), Japan, and the Loyola Institute of Social Science Training and Research (LISSTAR); Urban Community Resilience in Kochi with the World Resources Institute (WRI); Assessment of Urban Housing Scenario in Kerala: With Focus on Households without Formal Land Rights for GIZ; and Village Level Study on the Youth Labour Market Outcomes in Kerala for the Government of Kerala.
