Athul S G is a researcher at CSES with interest in ageing, social policy, and health. Holding a Master of Philosophy in Social Sciences in Health from Jawaharlal Nehru University and a Masters in Development Administration from Gandhigram Rural Institute, he has focused his research on marginalized and vulnerable communities.
At CSES, he has contributed to significant projects on extreme poverty, healthcare for tribal communities, and ageing.
Athul has previously held consultancy roles with organisations such as the Third World Network and Public Services International in intellectual property rights, access to medicines, and free trade agreements. His experience also includes working with the COPASAH Global Secretariat and the Peoples Health Movement Secretariat, where he played critical roles in organising major health assemblies and symposiums and bridging practitioners and policymakers. Through his work, Athul continues to advocate for marginalised communities, striving to address and alleviate social inequalities in health and development. He devotes his time to voluntary activism and works closely with the many networks that work for social justice. He has a good command of qualitative research methods and enjoys collecting narratives and engaging with people in the community. His interest in multimedia led to a video documentary on the Indigenous in Kerala showcased and discussed in HSR 2020 symposium by Health Systems Global and selected in the top fifteen under the Global Development Network (GDN) and Agence Française de Développement (AFD) video contest.
