Professor Dr K.K.George
Professor George’s research experience falls into two categories. First is the experience in conducting operations- oriented research in the Economic and Statistical Research Department of the State Bank of India. The research work covered monetary economics, industrial economics, regional economics and the economics of international trade and finance. The second type of experience is in conducting and guiding research in institutions like the Cochin University of Science and Technology, the Centre for Development Studies, and the Centre for Socio-Economic and Environmental Studies. During this period, his research work has been largely on (1) the financial relations between the central and State Governments in India (2) trends in State Finances in India with special reference to Kerala State Finances (3) The Kerala Model of Development and (4) Issues in Education.
The positions he held in the past include: Director of the School of Management Studies of the Cochin University of Science & Technology; Emeritus Professor, All India Council for Technical Education; Senior Fulbright Fellow at the Department of Economics, University of Maryland and Centre for Federalism, Temple University, USA; Fellow of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, Canada at St. Mary’s University, Halifax, Canada; Member of the Advisory Board, Kerala State Planning Board; Visiting Fellow, Centre for Development Studies; Senior Fellow of the Indian Council of Social Science Research at Centre for Development Studies; Member-Expenditure Commission, Government of Kerala; Member-Working Group on Expenditure Policy, Planning Commission, Government of India; Nominee – RBI in the Board of Directors of the Federal Bank & Parur Central Bank; Public Representative in the Director Board of Cochin Stock Exchange; Chairman, Research Group on Centrally Sponsored Schemes, Kerala State Planning Board; Expert Member in the Committee for preparing Kerala’s Memorandum to the Ninth and Tenth Finance Commissions; Member-Southern Regional Advisory Committee, SIDBI; Member -Steering Committee & Program Advisory Committee, Kerala Research Program on Local Level Development, Centre for Developmental Studies; Adviser to the Government of West Bengal for preparing the memorandum to the Commission on restructuring Centre-State Relations (Sarkaria Commission); Member, High Level Finance Committee, Cochin University of Science and Technology; Member of the Syndicate, Academic Council and Board of Studies in Management of the Cochin University of Science & Technology.
He had worked in Tilburg University, Netherlands under Faculty Exchange Programme; His past assignments include Consultant to UNIDO, Vienna to design a Small & Medium Enterprises Info Network in India; Country Researcher (India) in the multi country (three countries in Asia and two each in Latin America and Africa) study “A Comparative Study of the Impact of Donor Initiated Programmes on Research Capacity in the South’ sponsored by the Directorate General for Development Cooperation (DGIS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Netherlands; Public Finance specialist under the MGP Programme of the Government of Kerala; Member of the three member Evaluation Team of the Andhra Pradesh Netherlands Bio-technology Programme being implemented at the Institute of Public Enterprises, Hyderabad sponsored by the DGIS, Government of Netherlands. He was the team leader of studies conducted by CSES.
