National Level Monitor of Centrally Sponsored Schemes
CSES has been selected as the National Level Monitor of Centrally Sponsored Schemes by the Government of India. Since 2012-13, CSES has been doing the regular monitoring of various schemes and programmes implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation and Ministry of Panchayatiraj. As part of this exercise, the monitoring of the implementation in various districts of Maharashtra, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamilnadu and Karnataka has been undertaken.
District Perspective Plan under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)
In 2008, the Centre was entrusted with the task of preparing the Five-year Perspective Plans for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in the districts of Alappuzha and Ernakulam by the Department of Rural Development, Government of Kerala.
DPR Preparation under the Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP)
The Centre has provided Technical Support to Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) in ten IWMP projects in different blocks in the districts of Palakkad, Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Malapuuram in Kerala. The support included community mobilsation, participatory rural appraisal (PRA), formation of user groups and SHGs, suggesting suitable watershed development interventions, taking work estimates for engineering structures, preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) and detailed action plan. Creating sustainability structures for safe drinking water sources is a major thrust area under IWMP.
Need Assessment and Preparation of DPR for Thadheshamithram
Under the aegis of the Kerala Local Government Service Delivery Project, the Centre was entrusted with the Need Assessment and the Preparation of DPR for Thadhessa Mithram in Kothamangalam Municipality, Adimaly and Mankulam Grama Panchayats in 2016.
CSES uses digital mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services in its projects. CSES has the ability to create GIS layers. Projects in which such applications have been made use of include:
Preparation of River Bank Atlas of Uppala River in Kerala for the Department of Land and Revenue, Government of Kerala (ongoing)
Digital Mapping of sand deposits in Uppala River bed for the Department of Land and Revenue, Government of Kerala
Preparation of River Bank Atlas of Periyar River, the largest river in Kerala, for the Department of Land and Revenue, Government of Kerala. River bank mapping covered a stretch of 59 km spread over 17 rural and urban local governments. Digital maps of land use, manmade features and physical features were generated.
GIS mapping of 10 Integrated Watershed Management Projects in different blocks in Kerala. GIS and remote sensing devices were made use of in the preparation of maps.
Used GIS maps in developing the District Perspective Plan under MGNREGA in the districts of Alappuzha and Ernakulam in Kerala. The work included digital mapping of water resources in the project area.
Digital Mapping of Tourism Resources in Kumarakom in Kerala for the Tourism Resorts Kerala Limited, a Government of Kerala undertaking. The project included the GIS database preparation of the natural and other resources.
CSES is an off campus training centre of the outreach programme of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun. Courses are offered in Remote sensing and Geographical Information System.
